Indoor League Gets Underway
Written by Robert Bowering

Tuesday saw our inaugural match in the new Wicketz Scotland indoor league.  We have been entered into Division 1 of the 2 division structure, up against the following teams:

  • Grange A
  • Grange B
  • Marchmont
  • Musselburgh
  • Murrayfield DAFs A
  • The Mighty Dux
  • and Southern Sixers (Edinburgh South)

Our opening fixture was against Marchmont and unfortunately was disrupted a bit by heavy traffic which meant that a couple of our players arrived late.  Marchmont took advantage winning the toss and elected to bat, scoring 11 off the first over.  Each innings consisting of 10, 5 ball overs. However we soon decided to have a one sided field and with wickets for Hamad and James (well caught behind by Asam) we pegged back the run rate.

Ramesh arrived just in time, so Bobby didn't have to bowl (phew!) and also took a wicket, however Travis didn't make it until our innings so Asam completed the bowling attack, bowling really well except for a head high beamer first ball.  In the end we restricted Marchmont to 72-3 in their 10 overs.  There were definitely some lessons learnt as we went along, as we gave a way a few too many overthrows early on, but it was a good performance.

In reply we made a slow start losing Hamad in the process having only scored 10 after 2 overs.  At the half way mark we were 30-2, James having gone also.  Soon after Ramesh went bringing Travis in, Bobby had to retire scoring 25 only for Travis then to be run out without facing a ball - a candidate for the Tunnocks Tea Cake award already, playing his first fixture for the club, missing the first innings and then not facing a ball when batting.  This brought Bobby back in to join Asam to try and pull a victory out of the bag.

18 were needed from the final over (any runs scored off the last ball are doubled) however whilst Asam scored a lovely 6 early in the over he was not able to pull off the victory and he and Bobby were left at the end with the score on 63-4, Bobby having got 29 not out.

All who took part thoroughly enjoyed the evening and are looking forward to the next match on Sunday 8th November v Grange.
