Livingston 1st XI Win Opening League Game
Written by Iain Murdoch

Livingston 1st XI got their 2007 league campaign of to a positive start with a win against Roseburn CC at Roseburn on Saturday.  Whilst there were glimmers of comprehensiveness in the result, there were also periods of concern during a hard fought match.

Firstly, it must be stated that Edinburgh District Council have little or no idea about what constitutes a cricket pitch. Batting on relaid turf that hasn't bound yet, certainly made for interesting cricket.

Losing the toss, Livingston were invited to bowl first, and missing 4 1st XI bowlers, did not deter the Kingfishers from a great start. Good bowling from Salman Aslam and Jim Wilson reduced Roseburn to 10 for 5, and a confident LBW appeal turned down would have made the situation better.  As it was Rosebirn recovered to 64 for 5 and then a flurry of wickets saw them 88 for 9.  The last wicket unfortunately almost doubled the score before Jim Wilson clung onto a skier to close the Roseburn innings on 146.  Salman finsihed with 4 wickets, and 2 each for Jim Wilson, Richard Drewett and Kirk Crichton on debut.

In reply Livi slumped to 65 for 6 before an unbroken club record 7th wicket partnership of 85 between skipper Staurt Lang and vice skipper Neil jukes saw the Kingfishers home. Neil finished unbeaten on 44 and Stuart unbeaten on 35

A few lessosn to be learnt, especially on the bowling front, but nevertheless 20 welcome points.
