Livingston 1st XI secured their 2nd win of the season with a hard fought, but ultimately deserved, win against Murrayfield/Dafs at a very blustery Muirhouse on Saturday.
Invited to bat on the now traditional wet Muirhouse wicket, the Kingfishers were reduced to 26 for 3 before a hard hitting 25 from Salman Aslam saw him dismissed with the score on 65. Skipper Lang and wicketkeeper Murdoch, then dug in with an invaluable 5th wicket stand on 72, before Murdoch was run out in the 42nd over. Wickets fell regularly as the Kingfishers tried to add some quick runs before closing on 167 for 9. Skipper Lang completed a well deserved half century before being caught for 55.
Livingston, welcoming back for the first time this season Feraz Asghar, Hamed Ahmed and Iain Thomson were a much different bowling attack from the side that played the opening two games of the season. Despite 20s from Kulkarni, Jaya and Scott, the Livi bowlers regularly took wickets leaving MUF's always behind the clock on the runs and vetern Jim Wilson ripped the hrat out fo the middle order, finishing with impressive figures of 4 for 15 off his 10 overs. 16 year old Hamed AHmed took 2 for 23, and Aslam took 2 wickets. Father and son combo Navid and Feraz Asghar each took a wicket a piece as MUFs finished 21 runs short.
A good all round victory, further enhanced by the clubs continual investment in youth paying dividends. 4 of the side were products of the clubs youth policy and with a further 2 of the side under 24, it showed the benefits that can be gleaned from such a policy.
