Heriots Nail Kingfishers
Written by Administrator
Livingston slumped to a second succesive league defeat at the hands of league leaders Heriots on Saturday. On a wicket that was damp and drying under overcast conditions Heriots wwere the benefcators of a crucial toss and had no hesitation in asking the Kingfishers to bat.

Tight bowling in the ideal bowling conditions from Wallace and Rimmer and ably backed up by Hamilton and Reddy kept the score under 2 an over and the 50 didn't come up until the 31st over. Livingston managed to add a further  100 runs in the remaining 19 overs, with keeper Murdoch top scoring with 26. The loss of Wilson run out off the last ball deprived Livi of another batting point as the innings closed on 149 for 9. It probably wasn't going to be enough. The innings was 'memorable'  for some of the most ridiculous chat heard on a cricket field by a side who clearly showed no respect to their opponents. Their skipper proudly boasting that the entire cover ring had played 'statues' during an over was typical of the arrogance that pervaded the game. It's difficult to play a game in the proper spirit when this type of behaviour is ongoing. Yes you may be much better than the opposition were, but at least award them respect rather than diffidence.

In reply Heriots flew out the traps with Skipper Ross being particularily severe on anything loose. The breakthrough came when an absoulte jaffa of a delivery from Hamad Ahmed clean bowled the dangerous Goddard. Heriots kept the board ticking over until Skipper Lang in a flash of genius (or was it desperation!!) brought on Fahad Ahmed. The young mans debut as a 1st XI bowler was inspiring. In his 10 overs he finished with 5 for 33, including the wicket of Ross, bowled for 67, ironically trying to retain the strike. (He had instructed the number 4 batsman that he was going to retain as much of the strike as possible as he wanted to score a century...Pride comes before a fall). In the end despite The Ahmed Bros fine bowling, Heriots eased home thanks mainly to a sensible innings from Wallace. Another 20 or 30 more runs and the target would have been more difficult for Heriots to obtain.

Rumours that a special presentation of a copy of the Preamble of the Laws of the game are being made at the next ESCA Presentation Dinner are as yet unconfirmed.

Next week sees the first visit of Freuchie 2's to Dresselrigg as the 1st XI hope to get back to winning ways.
