Club Records Tumble
Written by Administrator
Cricket is a strange, strange sport. In a season where the Kingfishers are struggling, 6 games into the season and 3 long standing club record wicket partnerships have fallen, and a League century was scored by a local amateur.

In the opening league game, on 28th April at Roseburn, skipper Stuart Lang and vice skipper Neil Jukes provided an unbeaten 85 partnership for the 7th wicket, eclipsing the record that has stood for 19 years since 1988. This was followed up 4 weeks later when Jim Wilson and Feraz Asghar recorded an 8th wicket partnership of 58 against Grange at Dresselrigg, again eclipsing a 19 year old record. Finally on 10th June again at home Kirk Crichton and Iain Murdoch posted 91 for the 5th wicket resord partnership which had stood since 1989.

In the same game, Kirk Crichton became the youngest player in Club history to score a century. His 111 against Freuchie was the 1st League century by a non overseas player since Derek Allan had struck 2 centuries in successive weeks 10 years earlier, and the first century in any game by a non overseas player since Willie Johns in 1999.

Freuchies succesful chase was also the highest succesful chase at Dreselrigg, and that lasted a whole 24 hours as an explsoive innings from Junaid, allowed Murrayfield Dafs to successfully chase down the 234/4 set by the Sunday XI. Mufs finishing on 238/4..... At least that record will last longer than 24 hours!!

You would have thought that for records to tumble, particularily batting records it would be easier to do so in a winning side, but only the Roseburn game was a winning effort. Perhaps we should stop breaking records and just concentrate on winning games!

The club records sections have been amended to incorporate these latest records.
