Playing for Livingston Cricket Club is an amatuer sport, but does that mean that we should simply view it as that? Certainly there is scope within the games arranged for those that simply wish to play for fun, but what does playing for the club mean?
This is an extract plagerised from an article that appears on the Livingston Rugby Club website. To me the ethos and points contained in it are very relevent to how we should approach playing for Livingston Cricket Club.
"When you step through the gates of Dresselrigg before a match, there's an excitement that builds inside, knowing that you are a part of something bigger than one individual. It's about being a part of an ongoing club story, and representing every club member, past and presesnt on and off the pitch. Because that's what Livingson Cricket Club should be about.
In that moment, it's not about you any more; it's about 'us', the team. It's about the people around about you, each one of whom will put in effort to prepare for the game, work hard to get the ground ready, get knocked down but get up and keep trying, all in the name of sport. It certainly isn't just a game, and it's more than just taking part. And at the 'final whistle', regardless of the result, you are a part of a team who have shared the pride and the passion, and because of that you have grown just a little bit, and have tasted life more fully because of it."
