Freuchies victory over Holy Cross on Sunday confirmed Livingston will not be in ESCA Div 1 next season. This result combined with a dismal result by the Kingfishers on Saturday at Glenrothes means that for the first time in its 26 season existance, the club will experience the gloom of relegation.
On the saturday at an overcast Hippo Park in Gelnrothes the loss of the toss meant that Livi were up against it from the start. On a wicket that got easier to bat on the longer the game went on, Livi slumped to 14 for 3 before an 87 run partnership between Navid Asghar and Iain Murdoch recovered the situation a litte. Ashgar was finally caught for 38 before Murdoch fell for a well worked 55.
A flurry of runs by Jim Wilson and Richard Drewett towards the end saw Livi all out for 146. Mike Boyd 'mumping' his way to 3 for 26.
In reply Salman Aslam dismissed overseas player Madiseng for peanuts with a jaffa of a delivery, but the hard hitting Khan and solid Opener Thomson rebalanced the ship before skipper Dale played a match winning half century. In the end we were 50 runs short of a challenging total and ultimately 5 points short of safety.
Yes relegation is disappointing, but the future is still bright for Livingston, with the juniors slowly coming through the ranks. For the best part of the season we had 4 U21s in the 1st XI, one of whom scored a league century and another who took 5 wickets in an innings. It is not quite a sunset on the clubs progression, merely a minor eclispe. we'll be back.
