Regular readers will recall that an end of season article was published highlighting the achievement of Annandh Kumar (right) in scoring 500 league runs during the season. Well the final seasons figures are in and, despite some initial thoughts, Annadh's final season total was a staggering 990 runs. 10 runs short of the magical 1000 runs mark and one mere boundary away from breaking Gerry Tom’s 18 year old record for the most runs in a season.

How did the quiet man of the club become the silent and deadly destroyer of bowlers and records? And more importantly, how did he manage to make the awkward and gangly Junior xYDO (below left) become the confident young opener that we saw emerge throughout the season? Well I ain't no psychologist, however I am a statistician, so I can't answer the last, but as sure as heck I can answer the former....

22 Innings 5 not outs at an average of over 58, with 2 hundreds and 8 further half centuries.. Not a bad return for a Scottish summer. If only he hadn't retired after 6 overs of a FCU match with 43 on the board out of the total of 100 or not batted most of the latter part of the season with a dodgy knee. Or stood by at the non strikers end and watched as his namesake, Senthil, flayed Penicuik and Edinburgh Accies bowlers to all parts as victory targets were chased down in style. Life is a story of if's and but's, and it would have been a fantastic achievement to break the 1k run barrier, but lets be honest, he was only 2 shots short of it and its not the number, but the manner and style in which those 990 runs were scored. And its that manner and style, and the dignity and humility of his reactions of his achievements that will mean that Annandh's summer of runs will be long remembered by those of us privileged to be part of it.

Awkward and gangly loon has always had great batting technique (not sure where from!) but Anandh gave him the opportunity to watch and learn....spend time out in the middle without undue pressure to score quickly.....and to grow in confidence - not something you can coach!
So, as a former coach of the young junior, I'd like to thank the quiet assassin for helping him where I couldn't - good on you lad
