Where Are They Now 4? - Keith Boyall
Written by Administrator
Keith Boyall. Mention the name in East of Scotland circles and the older members of the cricketing circuit have a sharp intake of breath, shake their heads in dismay and start muttering disdainfully.  Son of LCC stalwart opening bat Robin, (yet) another product of the great educational establishment known as Craigshill High, he may have been an aggressive opening bowler whose line went further down leg the angrier he got, but he also took nearly 300 wickets between 1984 and 1987 alone!! keith_boyall_then
He still holds the record for the most wickets in a season, taking an astonishing 84 wickets in 1986. But he was more than just one of the regular breed of psychopathic opening bowlers that clubs up and down the country have. He could bat a wee bit as well, although he scored his only century in Scotland playing for Fauldhouse against Livingston! Thats loyalty for you!

Despite his cricketing talent Keith is fondly remembered for the crazy stunts he would pull both on and off the field. This is the man who deliberately ran out half the team in a League game at Madras to ensure that he was back in time for the Rugby club disco! The man who selected his Sunday teams based on a combination of their drinking ability and the liklihood of them 'getting a round in'!! He was also a strong leader of men, undisputed by all around him. After all, this was the man who led a 'wading delegation' halfway to Denmark after getting lost on the promenande at 2.30am one morning when on tour in Scarborough!! Hard to believe that he was almost as much at home on the deck of a boat as he was at the bar! And his greatest achievement?

Definately the night he led a naked contingent onto the dancefloor at the Annual Club night to the strains of 'Man to Man Meets Man Parish', an incident that earned him a reprimand from the club!

Despite his proneness to rebel, he kept the most immaculate scorebooks that have ever been seen, only allowing others to fill in blank photocopies on the day which he labouriously copied into the actual scorebook later.

Keith has now moved back to England, where he lives within staggering distance (he still enjoys a pint or 3) of the most famous cricket club in the Birmingham League, Old Hill CC. He still plays in the Warwickshire league for Wilnecote CC but gave up bowling several years ago and now excels with the bat and recently qualified as an ECB umpire. Batsmen around the country had better watch out, and bowlers be warned... don't upset the umpire, at least not THIS umpire!

If Keith was still a member Mark would not have to worry about bar takings. Mind you a trip to the cash and carry to stock up on Lemonade would be required to satisfy Keiths need for his favourite cocktail ( Lager Top )
