Freuchie batted first, scoring 189-5 off their 50 overs. Livingston produced a fielding effort that was luck lustre and sloppy even by our own low standards, with many fumbles and overthrows and the batsmen able to take easy singles to fielders standing static and too deep. Depspite the fairly apparent weaknesses that many batsmen showed, Livingston's one dimensional bowling attack could not penetrate it. Shrey's legspin offered the only variety, but despite extracting plenty of turn, he could not find a consistent length to pressure the batsman. The onslaught in the final overs did not concede that many runs, indicating that the Freuchie opener (who scored 91) was the only quality batsman they had.
Livingston started the reply positively, but threw away wickets. Not a single wicket was lost to good bowling - all were given away cheaply to rash shorts or rash umpiring. All of the top order made a start, but Senthil was the only one to post a score, scoring 8 sixes on the way to 71. The final wicket partnership was the largest, with Senthil and Mark batting through 12 overs, scoring 48 runs and seeing off the three decent bowlers Freuchie could muster. When Senthil finally edged an innocuous wide ball to the keeper, Livingston were dismissed 34 runs short of the target, but ahead of the required run rate.
Freuchie have struggled in Division 2 over the past few seasons. Their team would not have beaten many of the Divison 3 sides Livingston brushed aside last year. There won't be many better opportunities for victories, and unless improvements and changes are made, relegation seems likely. Pathetic.
