Rain thwarts Livingston 2’s again
Written by Faisal Anwar

Two home games played for the 2’s, only half a game completed in each case.

The forecast was for heavy rain in the afternoon, and so the 2’s best chance of a win was to put the opposition into bat and skittle them for not very much.  Skipper Hall duly won the toss and invited Dunfermline to bat on what looked like a reasonable track given the rain we’ve had in recent weeks, but it was a cold day with a blustery wind blowing.

Fielding their weakest side so far this season, the 2’s started well restricting Dunfermline’s batsmen to less than 3 runs an over. But the Wanderers openers proved difficult to remove, the 2’s not helping themselves with dropped catches.   Finally the first breakthrough came in the 26th over with Suresh carrying on where he left off last week with more excellent bowling.  Still the 2’s struggled to breakdown the Dunfermline side, despite some excellent bowling, but they continued to restrict the run rate. The last 8 overs bought 5 wickets as Dunfermline having got into a good position with wickets in hand failed to capitalise.  Suresh (3-34) and Shrey Aswathi (3-40), making his debut for the 2’s with his interesting leg spin, took the wickets for the 2’s, with no reward but good support from Roddy ‘I like to be teased’ Mackay (9 overs 5 maidens 0-11), Cheaney (9 overs 0-37) and the Spin King (9 overs 0-26).  Livi’s ground fielding for the most part was good bar the odd mis-field, but catching does need to improve, though not helped by the gale force winds that were blowing through the ‘Rigg. Dunfermline finished on 156 for 6, a good effort by both the 2’s and Dunfermline, leaving the game finely balanced.

The covers went just before tea and never came off as the constant drizzle and gale force winds made play less and less likely.  In the end both captains agreed to call it a day and the match was abandoned.

The 2’s are still looking for their first proper win of the season and will be hoping that next week the weather will give them the chance, at home to Broomhall (correction).

Can't we plan to have an early start of the match instead of 1pm like 10am or 11am may be( I know I am not the right guy to use words like "early" or "on time" :P ) But seeing the forecast record of past few weeks and for tomorrow's, it is usually rain shower by 4pm.
