Stirling too strong for the Firsts
Written by Mark Collings

Stirling County II: 237 - 5

Livingston: 203 - 10 (46.4)

Batting first on thier excellent pitch, the Stirling openers gave a fine display, demonstrating how good technique minimises chances even when not completely on top of the bowling. Their 100 partnership came in the 22nd over. Jim made the breakthrough, dismissing both openers in his second, to start a  13 over period where Livingston took control. Fine catches to Salman and Soaby behind the stumps and a further wicket to Jim left Stirling at 125 for 5 from 35 overs. The middle order looked shaky at first, but built thier innings well. None of the sharp caught & bowled chances stuck, and some poor outfield catching meant Livingston were unable to take further wickets. Jazim was particularly unfortunate not to claim some scalps. Stirling finished with a gettable 237, and it was honours even at tea.

Livingston's reply started well despite the unnecessary run outs of Soaby and Debasis. Bobby top scored with 80, and Andrew also contributed an excellent 44. At 143 - 3 after 35 overs, Livingston were well ahead of Stirling tally at the same point, and seemed well in control. However, none of the middle and lower order were able to get established, and the innings fizzled to be all out for 203 in the 47th.

Stirling's No.6 and No. 7 provide a good illustration of how to build a middle order innings.
