Public Parks victory v Woodcutters
Written by Robert Bowering

Greg v Woodcutters Following a wet week, Livingston entered the fray into their first T20 cup match of the season.  Postponed from Tuesday our first round opponents in the Public Parks trophy were Woodcutters, a well established social team in Edinburgh (founded in 1962).

Bobby won the toss and elected to bowl as the match was to be played on the artificial.  Opening with Naveen and Connor there were no early wickets but a tight control was kept on the run rate with Naveen only conceding 10 in his 4 overs and constantly causing the batsmen problems.  Connor split his spell between the beginning and the end of the innings.  Greg (2-15) replaced Connor and made the breakthrough as the opener top edged a chance to Ramesh.  His second wicket clean bowling their No. 3 and splitting the stumps in the process.

Throughout the Woodcutters innings they batted solidly but were never able to get away, only their opener really making any headway, unfortunately for him being run out 3 short of his 50.  As they tried to accelerate a few wickets fell Connor catching one in the deep off Faisal (1-11) and a further 2 run outs.  The innings closed with Woodcutters reaching 104-6.

Following a quick turnaround and 2 steady overs in which Bobby and Neil only scored 4, in the third over the accelerator was turned on.  Firstly with Bobby taking 10 off an over and then hit a purple patch of 4 fours off 5 balls.  Neil then took on the role of aggressor so that with approx 10 overs to go only 30 were required.  The run rate slowed as Livingston began to ease to victory, however first Bobby (45) fell after an opening stand of 86 then Neil (45) leaving it to Andrew in his opening match of the season and Greg to finish things off.  Greg finishing in style with a huge 6 (see picture above!).

Prior to Neil's dismissal there was aTunnocks Tea Cake moment.  We had lent Connor to field for the Woodcutters, Neil had top edged a possible chance down to fine leg where Connor was fielding, he ambled to the ball meaning it fell short of him and looked to be in the ideal position to take it on the bounce, however then inexplicably managed to slip and fell to the ground allowing the ball to trickle across the boundary for 4.

A comprehensive victory and a good start to our T20 season.
