Livi lose at Leith
Written by Administrator
With the opening fixture missed due to the wet condition of Dresselrigg,
the 1's opened their season against on Saturday. The team featured David
James, Sanjay Kallat and Neil Fenwick making their club debuts, and a 1st
XI debut for Mark Collings. The soft and sporting Leith Link ground was an
unattractive batting prospect, so winning the toss and inserting the home
side looked to best advantage.

The Kingfishers made initial breakthroughs thanks to a fine opening spells
from Mark Collings and Salman Aslam, reducing Leith to 22 for 3. The
pressure on Leith was relaxed however through the fourth wicket
partnership, as the hard hitting Leith batsman made the most of variable
Livi bowling. This despite a fine couple of spells from Jim Wilson who
returned figures of 3-13. The removal of opener Mathur for 49 by Mark
Collings in his second spell lifted spirits a little, only for Leith's no 7
and number 9 to bludgeon the Livi attack, including 3 sixes into the
neighbouring allotments.

Leith closed on 189 for 9, a tough early season target in the conditions.
Livingston never looked like mounting a serious challenge to the target,
though there were positives with Mark Collings again central, top scoring
29. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and Livi were dismissed in the 43rd
over for 113.

A disappointing performance from the Kingfishers to start their Division 2
campaign. At least the sun shined and Leith were pleasant company (though
not with the bat) and the new faces were able to settle into the team.
