1's chalk up another league win
Written by Administrator
Last Saturday Livingston recorded another fine win, away at Westquarter & Redding. Having experienced Westquarter last season in cup competition, Livingston were by and large prepared for the questionnable approach of the opposition.
Electing to bat first, Westquarter were quickly reappraising the situation once Ian Thomson took three quick wickets in a fine opening spell. Westquarter regrouped however with the opening bat blocking one end as Livingston struggled to make the next breakthrough. Feraz Asghar, making his first start of the season, eventually made the breakthrough but not before Salman Aslam's claimed catch off Mark Collings was controversially ruled a bump ball. Further debates were to be had, an apparent snick to Kirk Crichton being declined.

The solid hitting Mumtaz pushed the score towards 100 before his vital wicket was claimed by Jim Wilson, caught by Sohaib Asghar in the deep. The innings then quickly collapsed to 115 all out, with Jim Wilson mopping up the tail.

In reply Sohaib Asghar was central to pushing Livi to the target, holding the innings together with 33. Sadly further umpiring debates were to be had, skipper Neil Jukes in the midst of getting changed after the first wicket fall, only to be called back onto the pitch to sort out a no-ball call being disputed by Westquarter.

Thankfully the nonsense failed to affect the result, as Livingston pushed on to victory, shot of the day being Mukhtar Ahmed's straight six uphill, with the despairing cries of "catch it" somewhat optimistic, with mid-on and mid-off up saving the single and the ball crashing high into the protective netting at the boundary edge. Livingston reached the total with the loss of only 4 wickets.

Another good win, a pity the game was spoiled by the disappointing attitudes and lack of regard for the spirit of the game, which has become all too commonplace around the league. Back in the dressing room, Livingston players were checking their diaries to book holidays or shopping trips in place of the return match, a sad reflection on the game.

Next Saturday, the fun continues with Livingston entertaining Edinburgh 2's.
