Rain claimed yet further fixtures at the weekend, but not before much leather chasing away at Boroughmuir.
Put into the field, our 1's started reasonably with tight opening spells from Mark Collings and Ian Thomson. First change Navid Asghar then made two breakthroughs but in good batting conditions, thereafter Livi's fortunes and standards slipped badly. The Boroughmuir batters bullied the Livi fielding effort, making the most of a true batting surface, fast outfield and strangely short boundaries. Livingston, spoilt previously by more favourable bowling conditions, sadly wilted and heads were low. All told 9 bowlers were used, most taking a pummelling. 283 the outcome from 50 overs, with a good tea, rest and a bat to look forward to, but not before a few home truths in the dressing room about attitude and expecting success to come too easily.
Thankfully Sohaib Asghar was on hand to show Livi the way after the intermission, with excellent strokeplay and authentic cricket shots ideally suited to the conditions, to record his maiden half century for the 1's. With Salman Aslam and Kirk Crichton also forcing the pace, Livi were well up with the run rate as rain started to fall. With more than rain needed to shift Sobi from the crease, play continued until, at c.120-3 from 20-odd overs, the captains agreed to abandon, with the match delicately poised close to the 30 over cut-off for a run-rate outcome.
It was probably the sensible decision, as ground conditions were becoming tricky and the match could have gone either way. Certainly after the abandonment the rain persisted and fell heavier, leading to the Presidents Plate trip to Broomhall to be cancelled the following day.
