Cheaney facing, Anwar leaning, Mackay looking smart! At Inch Park

In the tightest of tight games Livingston pull out a win.

Livi won the toss and elected to bat.
Heaney fell for 9 in the 6th over which bought Bowering to the crease with Anwar who took the score from 16 to 96 in the 24th over before Bowering was bowled on 30. Hall soon went for 5 followed by the jug avoiding Anwar for a fine knock of 49(caught in the deep). Franks was dismissed for 1 which left Jack Hilton to partner the tail from 27 overs onward. Tight slow bowling prevented the Livingston batsmen from 'getting on with it' and in the end we mustered 134 all out in the 44th over. Jack Hilton batted well for 17 overs for his 11 runs.
The total was probably 100 runs short and would take a huge effort to defend the score.
Mackay opened the bowling and picked up Brims for 0 caught in the slips with the 5th ball. Anwar was the other opening bowler and with Mackay made runs difficult to come by. Mackay picked up the 2nd wicket in the 9th over with the score on 16.Anwar picked up 2 wickets, 1 in the 16th and 1 in the 18th. So with the two bowled out the score was 38-4 from 18 overs. The double change was Hall and Heaney, Hall bowling tight and Heaney doing the same (for the 1st 5 balls anyway). Edinburgh made steady fprogress getting to 78 in the 29h over. An Anwar run out was the break-through we were looking for in the 30th. the run rate had been just under 3 all match which meant it would be tight and with the rain coming in George and Heaney picked up a wicket apiece.
At the end of the 39th over by which time it was raining Edinburgh South were on 116-7 fractionally behind the run rate. After 1 ball of the 40th over a single was scored and the batsmen were instructed to leave the field from the sidelines (it was chucking it down) with Edinburgh thinking they were now ahead of the run rate and as the storm was going to make a resumption of play impossible beleiving they had won the game. However the rules do state that a partially completed over is classed as a completed over when calculating run rate in a rain affected game which meant Livingston had won by a better run rate of 0.05.
Not the most satisfactory way to end a good game of cricket but we will take the win 'rules are rules'.
Mackay 9-2-22-2
Anwar 9-1-15-2
Hall 9-2-11-0
Heaney 6-0-23-1
George 3.1-0-12-1

Faisal Anwar trudging off for 49, should have been the 50 celebration shot

Faisal Anwar is off my Xmas card list for the worst case of jug avoiding possible. I could throw up.

Edinburgh South is definitely the toughest bowling line up I've faced so far this season, and for a change I didn't give any easy chances, apart from the one I got out on. No excuse on not getting the fifty, but to be honest I was more disappointed getting out when I did with the bowling as it was, and the top order all gone.

It's no surprise Edin South are up there around the top of the league, so it was a good result for us, even if we have the rules to thank.

The pitch was as green as you like, but can't really expect too much from a council pitch - and it was a tale of two ends - one end with a lot of bounce and the other end with not so bounce, hardly any turn, but with a bit of swing if you pitched it up. Oufield was bumpy in parts which did not help and pretty quick in other parts,

For the second week running we dropped a couple of catches which might have swung things more our way, whereas they held on to everything that came their way. So definitely room for improvement.

I'll think you'll find i've only been out once this season 'jug avoiding'. That said I am counting the jugs I need to buy - 1 for my fifty and 1 for jug avoiding.

Why I am currently struggling to build on the 50s that I have, to push on to the bigger scores - down to a lack of fitness / being dead on my feet by the time I get to 50.

Having done all the hard work on saturday to see of the good bowling to get out to the pie-bowling is the biggest crime of all!
