Livingston eased to a comfortable victory away to Edinburgh South in the first round of the Cow Corner Twenty 20.
Edinburgh South: 86-10 (20 overs)
Livingston: 88-4 (18.0 overs)
Edinburgh South won the toss and chose to bat on a damp, under-prepared pitch, that showed the same awkward slow bounce often seen at Dresselrig. Their innings started badly when their star batsman flicked an innocuous first delivery to a surprised looking Jeremy Franks at backward square leg. More wickets followed as they swiped and prodded ineffectively, and at 15 for 4 after 5 overs, they were in serious strife. The middle order batted stubbornly, but without wickets to spare they were unable to accelerate the run rate. Uncertain running gave several run outs, and the home team was dismissed for a modest 86 on the final ball of the innings.
Livingston's reply proceeded cautiously on the difficult pitch. Salman, Kash, Navid and Kirk all contributed before offering catches. Edinburgh South must have felt they still had a chance with 16 required for victory from the last three overs. However, four consecutive boundaries from Senthil sealed the victory with 2 overs to spare.
Lakhmir wanted it noted that he took a catch (juggled over-dramatically) and sent fine returns from the boundary to achieve two run outs. Lakhmir, mate, we all noticed you were there ...
