Another big win for the first XI
Written by Mark Collings

Livingston delivered a crushing defeat to Falkland, who are among the top teams in Div 3.

Falkland II: 134 (48.3 overs)
Livingston I: 136-4 (28.3 overs)

Navid won the toss and invited Falkland to bat on a typical Dresselrig wicket. Senthil struck early, producing accurate swinging deliveries, and the visitors were soon in trouble at 20 for 3. The Falkland middle order set about rebuilding their innings, but tight bowling, in particular from Jim, kept their run rate down. Silky took the key wicket just as the partnership was looking dangerous - a full blooded drive stunningly snatched with fielding-drill casualness by XYDO, on as 12th man. This surely would have been 4 runs had the bowler not been offspring. XDYO took a second catch in his spell as a substitute fielder, and the spring in his step proved that this mythical "injury" is purely psychological. XYDO aside, the intensity of the fielding effort fell away as the innings proceeded, and dropped catches allowed the Falkland total to grow past modest toward slightly concerning. Wickets to Lakhmir and a returning Senthil wrapped up the tail for a total of 134 in the penultimate over.
Silky started Livingston' reply confidently, until mistiming a drive to the extra-cover fielder. Two more wickets followed quickly, leaving Livingston struggling at 23 for 3. This brought the Kumars to the crease, who built a match winning century partnership. Anand was the dominant Kumar this week, with runs flowing from early in his innings. Given a reprieve in his 30s, he was finally out just short of the victory. Senthil took some time to find his timing, having not played at home for more than a month, but was scoring freely when the target was reached with more than 20 overs to spare.
Rumesh looked comfortable behind the stumps, stepping in as the 4th keeper in as many league games, and conceeding no byes. Livingston's strength and depth both in batting and bowling are providing the edge over our Division 3 opponents. It is also good to at last see that playing on a home pitch is an advantage not an inconvenience.

 S. Kumar 9.3-2-18-3  A. Kumar  59
 L. Singh    4-0-11-2; 2 catches  S. Kumar  53*
 M. Collings  10-1-28-2  A. Wilcock  13
 A. Wilcock    8-0-21-1
 N. Asghar    6-1-22-1
 R. Wilcock 2 catches

Erm....I can run about a bit....and I can catch a ball....but I cannae throw, dive around, bat, nor bowl....so kinda limited to what I can offer a team. Oh, I can also backup whoever is at the stumps for long throws....and get to the keepers stumps if he's chasing a ball down ;-)

And mebbe the spring in my step is what every fielder should have :-*

However, I did enjoy the little swansong...and seeing Caught Wilcock Bowled Wilcock in the 1st XI book as well as the 2nd XI. That's it, I can retire happy now :-)

It was a great win though.....and keeps us right up there with Drummond Trinity (who beat Penicuik by 44 runs on Saturday) and Clackmannan (who had a bye week due to Dunniker defaulting). And with neither team playing this weekend, we'll put real pressure on them by beating Dafs

I think %ages are as follows:

Clackmannan - 92, DT 88, Livingston 82, Falkland 76.....and shows what a big opportunity was lost by the washout against DT

I am sorry to rain on your parade xYDO....... Statistician here again. As you were a substitute fielder, the 1st XI book should read ct Sub b Wilcock. You are no entitled to claim that catch for your records.
I will trust that the book is appropriately amended. :-)

we are way behind at 77.5... dont understand the points and %ages system... I thought we would be right up there...but seems like we've got loads to chase up....

Lak,
The tables will be out of date by 1 game I think....

Every game we play is worth up to 20 points. So the percentage is worked out by the number of points we have divided by the total max number of points possible....

So after 4 games, then we have 62 points. so our percentage is 62/(20 x 4) ie 62/80 = 77.5%

Points are awarded as follows:
Team that wins the game gets 20 points
Losing team gets up to 6 batting points for scoring 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200 runs and gets 1 point for taking the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th wicket of the opposition

So after the last game we now have 82 ;points out of a possible 100 = 82%.
when you have played a msaller number of games then the change in percentage when you win our lose is greater when you have played a lot of games.

Also, the real reason we are so far back from 100% despite having won 4 out of 5 is that we lost so badly to Clackmannan 2 points out of a possible 20!!!
Hope this helps
TD

0 #8 Mudrock 2010-06-15 16:39
My UNPAID spokesman is correct. I have the small matter of nuptials next week!!! Also I have spent most of the summer so far beign Taxi driver to the wee man and his cricket commitments, which seriously impinges on my time!!!

But I might play once more before the autumn....
Maybe

TD / Mudrock / PC / whatever: why are you such a shit of a statistician? Let "ct XYDO bwld JXYDO" be will ya?

Has anybody mentioned that Salman winked at XYDO "Ronaldo style" as he came off on Saturday. I saw it. Luckily there were no Falkland players or TV cameras to catch that.

Kind regards,
Filipino Boy / Oliver Tahn

For which I and young Mr Murdoch are very happy, thank you sir. And if old Mr Murdoch really wants to fully own BSkyB, even better as long as he stumps up at least another ?1 per share, in which case I'll be a tad more wealthy (though still far from rich, unfortunately!) .
