Livingston: 294-10 (48.3 overs)
Grange III: 238-7
Navid continued with his excellent form at the tossing of a coin, and chose to bat on an even pitch. Lvingston scored rapidly from the outset, taking 40 runs off the first 4 overs. The batting was carefree, and while the runs continued to flow, wickets fell regularly without a really big partnership developing. Only Silky managed to build on a good start, patiently accumulating 68 while others were dismissed around him. Livingston were all out in the penultimate over, 6 runs short of the 300 mark.
Grange were immediately in trouble, when Jim (showing the spritely agility of man a third of his age) returned the ball from mid on to run out the batsman attempting a quick single off the first delivery. Feraz bowled with pace and ferocity to take 3 wickets in his opening spell. Grange built a large 5th wicket partnership, but were unable to score quickly enough against accurate change bowling. As the required run rate rose from difficult to improbable, Grange seemed content to bat for bonus points and personal averages. The intensity of the fielding and bowling fell away badly. While the win was always out of reach for Grange, they built a sizeable tally, and claimed maximum bonus points.
Livingston's performance was short of its best, despite the ease of the win. With more application, a truly immense total might have been scored, and the bowling again lacked penetration in the batting friendly conditions. It seems the toss was an all-important factor in the victory.
